Spotify hits 3 mln paid users following 'deep partnership' with Facebook

Popular music streaming service Spotify now has 3 million paying users worldwide, the company has revealed.

Spotify's chief content officer Ken Parks, who revealed the new figure, said that more than one in five of Spotify's customers in the dozen countries are now paying, rather than just using the free advertising-supported option.

Spotify has added 500,000 paying subscribers in the last two months.

According to The Telegraph, the big surge in its growth can be partially attributed to its US roll out and a deep partnership with Facebook, whereby all new Spotify users must have an account with the social network first.

The Swedish music streaming company was also launched in several new countries, including Denmark and Austria during the last few weeks, and began new partnerships with telcos such as Virgin Media.

Business Insider revealed that Spotify added five million new users since the tie-up with Facebook was announced last year.

The close relationship with Facebook, however, annoyed many Spotify's users because it prompted concerns about privacy and forced over-sharing via the social network. (ANI)
